This restaurant is more than 5 stars. Between the taste, the options , the customer service and the price, it deserves 100 stars. There aren't many BBQ places that I enjoy eating at. But I am a loyal customer of Sonny's. The baked beans and the pulled pork are always my favorite things. The burger IS AMAZING. The lemonade too! The garlic bread has plenty of taste, unlike many other restaurants in the area. Every time I order from Sonny's I know I'm in for a treat. With 10$ you have a great lunch ! Plentiful, delicious, and doesn't break the bank. What more can a girl ask for

Yum!! The pulled pork is fabulous! Sweet potato is great and so were the green beans! I wish the garlic bread was more garlicky.

This setting and decor of the place reminded me of a hole in the wall place back home in Oklahoma. The place is a little run down but appears to be clean. The servers all wear street clothes. The salad bar was disgusting looking but tasted okay. I had the all you can eat ribs and they were just okay. I've had better BBQ. Not sure what was up with the different bbq sauces. They were either too sweet or way too sour. For the price, definitely worth it.

The pitmasters at Sonny's BBQ do not play around with their meat. These guys know what they are doing. My personal favorites right now are their BBQ pulled pork and pulled chicken. These guys have perfected it. The meat is perfectly seasoned and smoked, plus some parts of the meat are crunchy from the smoker so you get a little bit of that char grilled taste. So out of control. You have to try Sonny's.

This past Thursday, We had family in from out of town that wanted to visit Coral Castle. unfortunately it was pouring rain and thunderstorms by the time we made the one hour drive down south. Looking to kill time for the storm to pass, we stopped into Sonnys for lunch. The four of us were greeted and seated in a booth right away. Our female server was very pleasant and brought our drinks quickly. When placing our order, she even allowed my sister in law and myself to order The Bomb sandwich with pulled chicken instead of the brisket. OMG! It tasted amazing!! We talked about that sandwich all afternoon! My brother in law ordered the regular The Bomb sandwich, which he loved. My husband ordered a brisket lunch platter, also yummy he said. The Cornbread muffin with it was extremely dry and crumbling, like sawdust though. Overall, a good experience. I cannot wait to have another The Bomb with the chicken!

The food was alright but the service was honestly unexpected. Me and my family are from California and I'm not sure if it's a racial thing or this establishment's policy to discriminate against Asian but it was just so rude. We're all in good manners and ordered our food with a smile but we just receive so much attitude. At first I thought our waitress was having an off day but she was more than happy to serve all the other patrons next to us. Alright whatever. But when people around us came in after us and got their food way before us was when I noticed we were the only non-white people. In the end we weren't offered refills or to go containers and still gave 15% tip and just left.

Very Inconsistent. The service is attentive and friendly and I've had good brisket. The corn bread and beans are tasty. However, the last time I used the drive through and ordered their anniversary ribs. They were horribly undercooked and chewy. I commented about it on their feedback website and nobody has followed up with me. They don't take care of a disappointed customer, so they don't get a good review. I live nearby and love barbecue. I'm never going back.

I came here for dinner with a small group. I ordered the pulled pork platter, and while it was okay (though not very warm), it was no better than what you'd get at Longhorn Steakhouse, Shorty's, or a chain restaurant -- it was lacking that authentic smoky, wood-burned flavor. The sauces were not bad, but in terms of the meat itself, there's just no comparison to Blue Willy's in Pompano Beach, which is *the* barbeque place to beat!

We were looking for a real country bbq experience, and we found it here. The food was divine. The service friendly and fast. I recommend the baby back ribs and the sliced pork. The corn muffins are the best I have ever had! Kids menu is excellent. They have the most authentic southern sweet tea in town. Great Amber beer, too. Price was great! For 6 of us, only $100. And we ATE!!!!! Must try it!! Ps. They also have a drive through!!

The pulled pork is to die for. The ambiance is lacking. Feels like a cafeteria or Golden Coral. Service was decent & food was quick. We tried the sampler platter, which was a LOT of food. But the pulled pork was best by far. The rest lacked flavor & the brisket was dry. If we are in the area, we would go back but just for the pulled pork.

  • Xuesong L.

it's very good and affordable. Fast food chain style instead of traditional cowboy style though

  • Jake O.

I would highly recommend the Sampler. My favorite meats were the brisket and the pulled pork. Brisket was tender and a nice thin slice. Pulled pork was some of the best I have ever had. Their Sweet BBQ sauce is my favorite especially with the pulled pork. The new BBQ chicken salad is highly recommended. Got ranch of the side. Corn Nuggets are a classic! Quiet and relaxed place with great service. Lunch for 4....more like dinner... For 48

Omg, this BBQ sucks! The meat is not seasoned and of course my ribs are waaayyyy better! It's real hard to find a place that serves really good grilled meat. Trust me, if you know how to cook and grill like me stay home and avoid this place at all cost! The only people that will say this food is good is ppl w no taste. And the meat, chicken or ribs are REALLY dry!

If your in the mood for BBQ meal check out Sonny's BBQ in Florida City. I like the Chicken and Ribs combo dinner. The Fries are hot and golden brown there so good and I like the BBQ Beans too. This meal will fill you up and it's just about $14.00. Inside the place they have a pretty good size dining area and salad bar and the people there are friendly.

This place has good service. That's it. It's a chain, imagine a step up from McDonald's - that's about the quality of food. The taste was pretty bland. Chicken had no flavor of actual BBQ unless you slathered it with sauce. The ribs were mediocre at best. The pluses for this place were friendly staff, beer in what's basically a take-out restaurant and the sauces - they were pretty good. The food itself is not worth stopping.

  • Amanda M.

The rib sampler is delicious!! Don't forget to try the cornbread muffins, the best I've had. Good cost for portions.

Ironically I've never had good luck with Sonnys BBQ back in Georgia but this particular restaurant has been pretty good 4 times now. I've eaten inside twice and drive thru twice. Ribs are good, pulled pork is good, chicken is good, sweet tea is ok. Service is always very good. I'll be back here next time I'm craving more BBQ. Hopefully it's as good as my other visits.

One of the best places for bbq in South Florida. The other place is Shiver's. Tried the baby back ribs and they were very tender and tasteful with not all the mess. The waiter Jason was very attentive and fast with the order & food. He filled our sweet tea cups multiple times before they could reach halfway. There is sufficient parking and the parking lot is very well lit at night time. One of my favorite places around town.

Travelling by and saw this place. I didn't feel like eating anything too heavy so I got the BBQ Chicken Salad with pulled chicken, and it was on point. The combination of crispy and fresh veggies and delicious chicken made this the perfect full sized salad. I also had a bite of my friends BBQ ribs. Delicious and fall off the bone. Make sure to check out the lunch menu. The prices are really awesome (unfortunately my salad wasn't on it).

I've been looking for good BBQ since moving to the Florida keys from Austin Texas a few months ago. I've missed real Texas BBQ really bad, so I might be a little off my game, but this place is good, real good! I only tried their Brisket and the Baby-back ribs. I'll update my review when I've been back to try some more stuff. But for now it is a solid 4 stars.

I brought my family in two days earlier (1/24/14) and ordered the $42.99 family meal which is where I fell in love with the brisket as it was fresh, super tender, and juicy. Unfortunately I was disappointed tonight in the quality of my meal (sliced brisket w/veggies) as the brisket was VERY DRY and luke warm - not consistent at all with Friday night's experience. Consistency is everything when it comes to service and food, but it was Sunday evening at 8pm and I should have gone with the higher turn-around-item like the $8.99 all you can eat chicken. I won't let tonight's experience keep me from coming back, but I'll be sure to come in on a busier night like Friday or Saturday and order the brisket again to give it another chance. Our server Jason was awesome though, great service and with such a positive attitude. Thanks Jason! :) In conclusion tonight Sonny's BBQ gets 3/5 Starts. Still not bad but you can do better.

Really like this place. The pulled pork is my fav. The chicken is great. Really good tenders. It's usually packed of people but the service is pretty fast so it's worth it.

Five stars. Coming from Hawaii, where there's no true good old fashioned, down home BBQ there, had to try Sonny's. The BBQ was excellent and the baked sweet potato was quite an enjoyable surprise. Of course, comin from Hawaii and not being able to have white rice with the BBQ was hard, but the sweet potato was really good! Highly recommend!

All you can eat chicken on Sunday was delish but OMGZ. SO. MUCH. FOOD. Garlic bread, cole slaw, corn on the cob, chicken, beer. Holy crap. I never really take advantage of these "all you can eat" places but the good news is... doggie bags are allowed. Everything was tasty. At this price, I'd come again.

A group of us, 7, were really hungry one night and decided that a BBQ place sounded good. In town for the Everglades, we pulled in for an early dinner. The service was fast, the server friendly and helpful, but the food was just ok. The pulled pork and chicken were moist, so that was nice, and there were several choices of sauces on the table, the sweet ones being my favorite, but overall the meal wasn't particularly wonderful. The veggies were cooked without being over done, but the baked sweet potatoes were greasy, and the pulled meat didn't really have much flavor. The salad bar was extensive with a variety of individual ingredients and already prepped salads. The corn bread muffins offered both with the meals or with t he salad bar were not very tasty, sort of dry and bland. The garlic bread was a white bread like offering without much taste, the type of garlic bread finds in the normal low end diners. I wouldn't try this place again personally, but once was ok.

  • Lori R.

We have been eating at this Sonny's for years, and it's not bad for a chain restaurant. Order a plate of smoked turkey, sliced or pulled pork and you get ridiculously large portion of meat with two sides and choice of corn muffin (blah) or garlic toast (amazing!). Prices are amazingly low. The sauces are very good, and the salad bar is always well stocked, appetizing and clean. Unfortunately the food is hit and miss here. One day you order something that comes out tasting fresh, hot and delicious - other times it's a bit dry, lukewarm and slightly bland. The service is always good. Worth a try.

I'm a fan of Sonny's from Somerset KY to this one. Ate there last week on the way back from the Keys. Not disappointed. The unknown diner digs it!

If you're from some place like Iowa and like overpaying for food, then this is definitely your place to go. Also, their hottest BBQ sauce is about as spicy as ketchup. On the upside, the service was quick and friendly.

Decent tasting food but really the 3-stars are in the value. For a few bucks you get a fully-stocked salad bar and some barbecued meats. I got what I expected here for my money.

I'm a Gainesville/UF girl who lived on Sonny's BBQ during her undergrad years. I've got very vivid memories of spending the day tubing on the river, and then stuffing our faces with all-you-can-eat BBQ at Sonny's. This was spot 3 on our day trip to Homestead - following cinnamon rolls and tropical fruit wine. Seems my appetite has changed over the years, because this first return to Sonny's did *not* include an all-you-can-eat order from me. In fact, I could barely make it through my regular ribs platter! But I was not disappointed. Oh Sonny's sweet sauce, I've missed you so. Introduced the raised-on-Shorty's-boyfriend to Sonny's, and he definitely took advantage of the all you can eat.... with lots and lots of ribs, and loved the cole slaw. His vote is still for Shorty's, but I was very happy to visit a place with so many fond memories.

Ordered the family meal for four. Lots of food for a very good price. The quality of food is very good. Its a long trip from Miami (30 - 40 minutes on the turnpike) but well worth the trip. Great place for a family style meals.

After a long day exploring the everglades, this place hit the spot. Everything that we ordered was excellent, the pork ribs were delicious (sizzlin' sweet is the sauce that I recommend), the cornbread was great, and the yam had great flavor. Reasonably priced, good service. Highly recommended.

It's been a long time since I've had such a juicy and tender beef brisket. The corn on the cob was also tender , yet not over cooked like some other places. Salad bar was well stocked , clean ,and all the items I tried were fresh. I was debating between four stars or five. The great service that I received from Trina shifted me towards awarding the fifth star. She's definitely an asset to this establishment. Her great service and pleasant demeanor, plus the great food made for a pleasant dining experience.

This place is amazing! BBQ is fantastic and the staff are as friendly as you could want. Down here for a business trip and I think we're going to be eating here for the duration. BBQ sauces (5 flavors) are truly delightful. And you can get them to go!

This place is awesome! Great service and amazing food! Some of my favorites have to be "The B.O.M.B." Sandwich, the brisket, baby back ribs, corn nuggets, red neck egg rolls, and the fried okra. I just wish I didn't have to drive so far to get there! This Sonny's location actually has a drive thru!

I came here last saturday in the afternoon around lunch time. It was my first time here. The food was great and it was served too fast...almost as fast as ordering in McDonald's (I can't tell whether that was good or bad) because the food was fresh and it did taste delicious. I ordered the half chicken with corn on the cob, broccoli, and corn bread. Everything taste delicious, and the chicken was smokey. The service was good, the waitress was attentive. Now, the appearance of the restaurant was dirty. The floors were dirty. And at some point while we were eating it smelled as of someone had stooled around. It was disgusting, couldn't tell of it was a group of over 12 men eating. Or if it was coming through the vents.

I like this place for BBQ and so do the kids. Service is always great and the price is reasonable too. Often swing through the drive thru for a real food that only slightly more expensive than a fast food place. Also try the corn nuggets with ranch, yum.

I didn't realize how good Sonny's was until I tried Pride and Joy BBQ, which is a tour de force of blandness and slow service. My own BBQ is better than either, so I tended to think of Sonny's as a fallback, but now that I've seen how much better it is than the TV place which was supposed to be the new Miami BBQ Mecca, I realize I've been selling Sonny's short. The ribs are always done right. They have a nice smoke ring, and they're seasoned well. They could be a little juicier, but that's being picky. The sauces are excellent. The mac and cheese is very good. The sauce is thick and cheesy. The beans are wonderful. Plenty of BBQ flavor. Not pork and beans dumped out of a can with a little molasses added. The garlic bread is excellent. Real butter, and it's never stale or cold. The people at the Homestead location are always nice, or maybe they just seem that way because I live in Miami, the rudeness capital of the galaxy. The restaurant is clean, and the restroom is set up well for BBQ, with lots of towels and actual hot water. For about half the price of Pride and Joy, you can get excellent food at Sonny's, and if you're really suicidal, you can go "all you can eat" and still get a good price. I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience at any Sonny's restaurant. Well worth driving past Shorty's, where the food tastes like kerosene, or Pride and Joy, where it tastes like air.

Every time I am on my way to or from the keys I always stop by this Sonny's. The place is right next to the expressway so you can not miss it. What I love about this place is the service. They are all very friendly and are always willing to give an extra soda, or fries with no charge. However the best thing here is their food. Not only is it really good BBQ it is very well priced and they give you enormous portions. Which I like because that gives me an amazing lunch for the next day. Their all you can eat deal is an amazing for only $15.99 and the family dinner can not be beat as it easily feeds 4 people with plenty of food left over, for about 10-12 bucks a person. If you are on your way to the keys or just in the homestead area, make sure to try this place out, but beware you may want to loosen up your belt before you walk in. Enjoy!!!

I have been to this Sonny's several times over the years and have never been disappointed. It is always pretty clean and seems to be managed well. The BBQ there is pretty good and always consistent. I especially like Sonny's for their take-out.

I've lived in homestead 3 years and this was the first time I ate here! First is the smell of yummy smoke d wood and meat. My waitress was very friendly. I ordered the brisket on garlic bread and a baked sweet potato. The brisket was delicious bit a bit dry. They do have a few different bbq sauces like sweet and smoky. The salad bar didnt have much. I expexted more at the salad bar. The restaurant was clean and ao were the bathrooms. We got our food really quickly. This was great service. I would just change a few things. The salad bar and more types of appetizers.

Next to Walmart . Not a big fan of the bbq it's just okay. Last time I got their half chicken & it was very dry. Gotta try their Corn Nuggets!! I also love their fries&corn on the cob.

I like the chopped brisket, their trademark sauces are really good too, I love the fact they have a drive thru, good bbq, fast and easy. This place is hit or miss though. When its good its good. But when its bad, you can feel like you wasted your money. Just like the service, this place is hit or miss.

I am a big fan of "Mom and Pop" BBQ joints; but for a chain this place is pretty good. The food is good; but the bbq isn't unique in my opinion. I could reproduce the food easily at home with a bottle of bbq sauce. A must try is the pulled pork on texas toast: a brilliant marriage! Their all-you-can-eat specials are amazingly priced. They offer pulled pork ($10?) and baby back ribs ($17?). It's perfect for those people with insatiable appetites! The service was good (quick and friendly). There was no wait on a Friday night! Good stuff!

Tasty and affordable take-out! Good service. The Chicken & Pork combo, with a couple extra sides, fed an adult and two children easily.

We love BBQ and for flavor and quality, Sonny's in Homestead is a regular for us. This months special is the all you can eat pork for 9.99 (our fab way was the pulled style) w/ a sweet potato and BBQ beans. They have weekly specials too, kids eat free Monday...Ribs on special tues etc The only down side is that the ribs are hit and miss sometimes they great but often times they are fatty and total crap. I would recommend trying them when they are on special, so you aren't out 15 bucks for a crappy meal! Very family friendly and the service is wonderful, we have never had bad service here! Our waitress on this visit today Casey was the best!! The tea is consistently he best in town, clear and fresh!

I come here once every few months when my group doesn't want to go to Shiver's and we always have a good experience. We drive down from Kendall and my oh my, it's a whole new world! The staff is usually very friendly and the service is great. I came here a few nights ago and my family all ordered the baby back ribs. However, my mom ordered a side a mac n cheese and it was a bit cold, maybe it was the last of the batch, so we told the waiter to bring us another one and he said it'll be out right away. She waited for it while the rest of us were eating our really meaty delicious ribs and the mac never came. She got a little mad because the rest of her food was getting cold and she wanted to have it with her ribs. She asked the waiter one more time after about 12 minutes and the waiter was surprised because someone else was supposed to bring it, so he rushed to the kitchen and gave her a new warm plate with everything plus what we already had. She liked her mac n' cheese and I got to take leftovers! Yay!

Good food. Ribs were a little on the skimpy side but Mac and cheese is good. Got our sodas to go which was nice. Friendly staff too.

The whole rack of baby back ribs was so well done the meat just slid off the bone. Do try the salad bar...fresh choices. I was surprised that the food could be this good at a chain restaurant.
